blue

Blue is a good color, and a popular color. After some time of contemplation on the matter, I've concluded a few reasons that blue is such a pleasant color.
First, it makes one thing of water: cool, fresh, and life-giving. Second, it makes one think of the sky: open air and freedom. A light, soft blue makes one think of (besides the sky) babies and love and happiness. A deep, rich blue makes one think of sapphires and royalty.
All these things come together to make blue a very pleasant and desirable color.

Perhaps part of the reason it's a "boy" color is because of it's "open air and freedom"ness, but really, I think it's just tradition.
Pink being a "girly" color might be more logically explained. Pink makes one think of skin and flowers, and therefore softness and vulnerability. Also, pink isn't a primary, saturated, bold color, and that could play into the "boys don't wear pink" bogus. Now the idea "real men wear pink" can easily be explained by man's desire to go against odds, stand out, and do something adventurous and make it seem easy and right. In other words, men like to "ride the bronc" so to speak. And risking ridicule and looking like a pansy but doing it anyway because you're "just that cool" is definately riding the bronc. Of course, now, men wearing pink is an accepted thing, and we all know the line between girly and boyish actions/clothing/colors is quite blurred these days.

So those were my thoughts on the matter. What are yours?
