It finally dawned on me why one is happy and willing to do something he is not obligated to do, even if it's work, when he is less happy and enthusiastic about doing something that he is obligated to do, even if it's play. It all boils down to man's rebellious nature, which in turn boils down to sin. Therefore I can logically deduce that it is sinful to begrudge doing something I am obligated to do. There are other aspects of our rebellious nature that can be tied in with this also. For instance, our desire for things that are forbidden us, whether it be cookies or porn (to put it succinctly). On the other hand, we might be surprised and joyed at having a handful of cookies stuffed down our throat at gunpoint. Yet eventually, the cookie loses it's demand, thus resulting in a surplus, at which point we might say something like, "I couldn't eat another cookie if it killed me." Which, in this particular circumstance would be morbidly appropriate, seeing as how not eating a cookie would likely result in being shot. Which usually results in being dead.....
Therefore, I resolve to be more willing in my chores, school work, etc., (or try to be more willing, seeing as we're battling with our fleshly and rebellious nature here, which reminds me, the word fleshy makes me shiver. No that wasn't a typo and I don't mean fleshLy with an "L", that word is fine. It's fleshy that creeps me out. anyway...) and to encourage the good side, the initiative side: doing work when I'm not under strict orders to do so, keeping my room clean especially when I'm not told to. Sometimes Roy and I decide to clean our room (without being told) and get really hyped about it and are just about to go upstairs and whoop up on our rooms proverbial hiney, when suddenly, the dreaded words are uttered by our mother: "Boys, you need to get your roomed cleaned up before this weekend!" Strange, how quickly that drains one's initiative.
oh well.
