Michael Specter is a young and famous astronaut and when he is chosen to pilot a new experimental craft, Red Eagle One, he accepts readily. With a succesful launch and the science of space travel advanced, Michael starts his return trip home. but something is in his path that isn't suppose to be: a small blue nebula. The gasses seap through the ship and Michael inadvertently breaths them in. He is instantly knocked out, and so is the ship's power, and the NASA base is sent into a state of panic, uncluding Michael's best friends, Steven and Claire Wethers who are watching the event from home.
When Michael wakes almost ten minutes later to find that the he has drifted out of the nebula and into the earth's exosphere. His trajectory is not steep, but he is moving at an extremely high rate of speed.
Once more showing his skill and luck (which he has done several times in his career), Red Eagle One Makes a moderately safe landing in the ocean.
After returning to earth, Michael feels really strange and tells his friends he just wants to go home and go to bed. But of course, this is impossible at the moment. Michael is debriefed and sent to the medical labs to be checked out by the doctor, who tells him the molecules of that gas has integrated itself into his cells. The good news is, it is not affecting his body an any negative way, in fact, his body seems as healthy as ever.
But on his way home, Michael continues to feel a strange sort of pulling sensation. walking next to Claire he feels a unique, slightly stronger pull that seemed to be coming from her. He feels dozens of other pulls coming from the direction of cars in the parking lot, and an over powering pull from what he guesses must be the earth itself.
That night, he goes to bed, confused and curious.
He wakes up in the middle of the night to find that he is floating a full foot above his bed. This discovery startles him, causing him to drop back onto his bed. Scared and excited, he jumps out of bed. The pulling sensatioins are more defined now, and he feels each of them more clearly. Concentrating as hard as he can, he attempts to eliminate all of the stronger pulls he feels. sensing he has succed, he jumps, just barely, and continues his asscention until he bumps his head on the cealing.
Elated, Michael drives to the Wethers and wakes up Steve and shows him his newfound ability. Steve, a bit of a mathmetitian and scientist himself, is instantly fascinated. Steven encourages Michael to practice and experiment right there in the living room of the apartment that he and his sister share. Eventualy Michael discovers that *he can control the effects of gravity on his body and anything he is touching*.
By then it is the next day, and time for Michael's second appointment with the NASA doctor. The doctor has been doing some experimenting on blood he drew from Michael and says that this substance is DEFINATELY effecting the cells it inhabits, though he isn't sure in what way excpet that it is not impeding the cells' function.
Michael's rival at the NASA base, a man named Collin, discovers what the nebula gas allowed Michael to do, determs that Michael won't have anything that he himself can have and forces the doctor/scientist to inject the substance into his own body.
Simultaniously, Michael has a long conversation with Steve and Claire as to what he should to about his new ability. He finally decides to be thankful for it and use it, but keep it a secret. After a few days of having a powerful ability that no one else has, Michael begins to get jelous of it so that when he meets up with Collin and Collin tells him what he did, Michael is suddenly selfish and doesn't want anyone else to have his ability. Collin, of course, sees his new ability as an oprotunity to destroy his rival and, having gone through the military and other classes of hand to hand combat, feels he will be able to defeat Michael easily. But Collin does not know how to use his power, or even what all it can do as well as Michael, and Michael is accordingly able to win the battle.
After defeating Collin, Michael destroys all evidence of the powerful nebula gas and is finally the only man who does or can have the power.
Michael then goes into government work as The Gravitor and, with the assistance of his friends, comes up with a pretty rockin' costume and mask. The suit is black with a few blue markings, that represent the blue nebula.
