Harias Lynwake grew up in a small family in the town of Lian. His father, Klaed Lynwake, was the blacksmith of the small town and had secretly been part of the Vapors. But a during a Raid, Harias's parents were killed and he and his twin sister, Valorie, were taken as slaves by the Raiders and put to work in their stone quarries. During their enslavement, the children met a boy named Brunty who was witty and clever, and after only a few days of slavery, had devised a plan of excape. During their escape, Valorie was left behind, and recaptured, but Brunty urged Harias to continue.
Brunty planned to go to the small town of Brookton, just north of Lian. during their journey Brunty fell and broke his back and died. Harias wandered on alone, not knowing where he was going and luckily found his way to Brookton where he was taken in by the Feldspars.
